SimPill
A modern medication dispenser for patients with early-stage dementia. With its user-friendly design and features, Sim-Pill ensures timely medication reminders, easy pill organisation, and customisable audio cues, empowering individuals to manage their health with confidence and independence.
SimPill eliminates the frustration and confusion often associated with traditional pill boxes. By prioritising simplicity, SimPill ensures that individuals with dementia can easily adhere to their medication routines, enhancing their quality of life and promoting better health outcomes. SimPill revolutionises the way medication is administered and tracked, providing caregivers and patients alike with peace of mind and enhanced independence.
SimPill is intentionally designed for minimal user interaction. All setup and stocking are handled by a carer or family member, allowing the patient to focus solely on retrieving their medication from the dispensing tray.
After creating moodboards, refining hundreds of sketches and evaluating against user feedback and specifications, I merged the strongest design elements to evoke the desired emotions, ultimately bringing SimPill to life.

Hours of work creating multiple iterations of forms inspired by calming and approachable emotions, informed by research and user feedback, resulted in the first SimPill model.
SimPill was thoughtfully designed with manufacturing in mind, utilising processes such as injection moulding and rotational moulding for efficient production. The device is fully disassemblable for easy repairs and maintenance, ensuring a longer lifespan and product longevity.
Mechanism - Easy for carers and family to stock and engineered to securely hold up to 15 pills of different shapes and official sizes that are prescribed or sold over the counter.
Form - With soft curves and organic forms, Simpill avoids the clinical appearance, offering a calming and approachable presence that naturally fits into household enviroments.
Audio Feature - Personalised audio reminder that plays familiar voices, creating a comforting and tailored reminder for users to take their medication on time.
Lights - AM and PM lights that visually alert the user when medication has been dispensed. A feature that increases carers/family reassurance by aiding the family to take their medication on time.
Dispensing - Pills drop into the tray at the programmed time, ready for the user to take.
Using KeyShot to render SimPill in context to easily show how the user interacts with the product and how it fits into the environment.
